The dark spirit of death hovers everywhere,
In the news, on the roads and in our chatter,
Families going through loss after loss, tragedy after tragedy,
Will it end? Are the end times upon us?
It’s like a hurricane that keeps sucking life out of us.
Joyous moments and experiences become a reminder of the deaths,
More days are spent on the road going to funerals, the scenic country a reminder of the previous one,
More family meetings are called to plan the final journey for a loved one,
A once happy get together, now a therapeutic session for grieving ones,
When will it all end? When will we get time to move on?
Before the heart settles from loss, another comes and piles more upon it,
Death has cast its wide net and spread a sense of helplessness and a spirit of fear,
A blanket has covered the nation and its people are struggling to get out,
From westgate to Umoinner, from the suburbs to the roads,
It has been one tragedy after another, more pain upon pain.
Rather than cry to our political leaders and depend on human discernment,
Let us look up to the heavens for soothing comfort,
That will rain peace and serenity upon our pain,
That will send hope and support to cushion our hearts from the loss,
It is in Him we should look to, it is in Him we should depend on.
For the living, learn from this and live right, live well,
Each day has its blessings which others won’t be able to see,
Appreciate the sun’s rays, the cool wind, the cloud’s drizzles and the silent nights,
Appreciate the traffic jams, the imperfect society, imperfect family and life’s intrigues,
You have life, you are alive.
